University of Castilla-La Mancha

The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) is a modern institution with campuses in Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, and Toledo. It serves a diverse university community of over 26,000 students, nearly 3,000 lecturers and researchers, and more than 1,100 administrative staff. UCLM stands out for its academic and research excellence, especially in engineering and related fields.

The PEARL Group at UCLM focuses on innovative research in electric power systems and electricity markets, bringing together expertise in engineering, economics, and operations research. This group has been involved in significant projects, including the FP7-Energy SiNGULAR (2012-2015) and the Horizon Europe EU-DREAM (2024-2028) initiative. Another notable research endeavor is the FITNESS project, a doctoral network exploring active distribution in smart grids. These projects underscore UCLM’s active role in addressing challenges in energy systems and sustainability.

UCLM’s research capabilities are further strengthened by the Institute of Energy Research and Industrial Applications, which drives innovation in smart grids and energy distribution systems. Javier Contreras, a key figure in UCLM’s research ecosystem, coordinates the FITNESS project from the School of Industrial Engineering in Ciudad Real.

With a commitment to interdisciplinary approaches and global collaboration, UCLM offers a vibrant environment for advancing engineering, energy, and sustainability.
